Hearing

2018

Participatory monument, social sculpture

Høring (hearing) was a one-day public hearing on participatory monuments September 7th 2018. The public hearing aimed to unfold the complex ethical and philosophical issues that surround participatory art projects and to encourage the audience to form an opinion and determine their position. Participants include witnesses and experts and many others. Public hearings are known to be held, as part of the public inquiry process. This provides interested parties with the opportunity to expand on the processes and to discuss inquiry issues with guests in a public forum. We live in uncertain times of intensity and uncertainty around public monuments—especially those that symbolize the enduring legacies and social inequality—we are reminded that we must find new, critical ways to reflect on the monuments we have inherited and imagine future monuments we have yet to build.

Any organisation or person could attend the hearing, either to speak or merely to observe the proceedings. The event is presented in Norwegian and simultaneously translated into English.
